Growing Up
Richard’s experience of growing up on the Nebraska prairie in the forties and fifties was very interesting. There were families still farming with horses and there were no paved roads. (Gravel roads were nice roads, but they became dirt or mud when it rained.) Of course, there was neither air conditioning nor central heating. To make a local call you turned a crank on the telephone to call the operator so that she could make a call to the party you wanted. Richard’s telephone number was 129. (He says that the operator usually knew all the news in and around town because she listened in on all the phone conversations!) Where Richard grew up, everyone had a big garden and raised poultry in town. (Richard says the nicer homes had screens to keep the bugs out.) He says everyone was happy to work to stay warm in the winter and to go swimming in the Republican River in the summer, when you had to stay up late at night until your bedroom temperature dropped below 90 degrees so that you could sleep.
Richard went away to college and then was in the military for four more years, during which he served in Vietnam.
Family
The good life began when Richard married his childhood sweetheart, Angela. They now have four children and are the proud grandparents of seven of the sweetest grandchildren. They have been married for thirty-nine years.
Angela and Richard love to fish and they plan to fish a lot more. They also enjoy rock collecting and making custom jewelry.
Real Estate
Even after thirty-nine years of being in the real estate and mortgage business, it is still Richard’s greatest pleasure to help nice people get the home they want. He says he is planning on many more years of high-quality service to people.
